Quote of the month:
“Life is like going the wrong way on a moving walkway. Stand still and you go backwards. Walk and you stay put.
Gotta hustle to get ahead.” - Farrelly Brothers
Rich Dad Poor Dad is a learning book about personal finances. It gives insights and tools on how to build a sustainable business and become financially independent. It also gives a very clear picture of the actual state of mind for professional success. It compares the different schools of thought (hence the title, as you can imagine): those who fit at school, study hard, get good grades, good diplomas, secure jobs, a company car and health insurance - with those more subversive, educating themselves along the powerful structures in our society: the banks, the CEOs and the entrepreneurs. No need of academic degree for that, but rather a sensitivity to how the things actually work today.
Take a moment and make an effort; try to remember where were the toilets located in your schools, from the first ages to your graduation. In Belgium, and, as far as I can say, in Europe, the toilets in elementary, middle and high schools are as much as possible located right in front of the principal office, or to say the least at a very close distance of it, and of any other authority figure’s office. You might even ask yourself, why so ? Privacy and freedom, my friends ! Most schools have been designed to threaten your privacy by putting such a close proximity between you, in your weakest position (bottom naked, releasing your troubles), and the school principal, or his right-hand, or the administraive assistants.
This category is only making sense after reading the following books; there is actually such a thing as the american litterature, for I believed America was a worldwide generic symbol of power, marketing, well, America, in the eyes of all the other countries. And we all know that generic goes very often with nothing special defining it right ? But these books gave me a deep and very geniune insight into the very subtly peculiar culture that reigns in the USA.
This special type of litterature has a lot of underground success since not too long ago; thirty to forty years maybe, not more. Utopies have given us means to take conscience of the consequences of the growing technology race driving today’s society.
.Tech and Engineering.
Visible light technology consists of using visible light spectrum as a mean to transfer data, as opposed to the Wi-Fi waves that belong to the radio spectrum. In other words, we can use our already existing lightning system as wireless data transmitters as an alternative to the Wi-Fi technology, with its expensive, capacity limited and unsecured modems. The Light-Fidelity (Li-Fi, versus Wireless-Fidelity for Wi-Fi) is made possible with LED light bulbs whose light amplitude pulses at the incredibly high frequencies that the visible light spectrum offers (430-770THz). These pulses are completely invisible to the human eye, yet it allows to transmit data, at speeds more than a hundred times higher than the fastest internet transmission, using conventional Wi-Fi.
Being one of the earth’s most abundant element, Hydrogen has also the advantage of being a zero-emission fuel when burned with oxygen. It is considered as an energy carrier as opposed to an energy source, in other words, a fuel to generate electricity from fuel cells. Fuel cells generate massive amounts of energy (up to three times more than hydrocarbon fuels) from burning of H2 and O2 and the producing of energy and water.
The very first opening topic of the Tech & Engineering first season goes about electric mobility. Firstly because everybody is involved with mobility; secondly, because it is reducing CO2 emissions to zero. The Bombardier Primove technology consists of integrating wireless charging batteries on electric rails, roads, and public transportation stops.
Renewable energy sources are increasingly present on the Belgian ground for eletricity production. However, they require energy storage solutions for periods without sun or wind to power up the grid. The Sink Float technology consists of using concrete masses that are shifted across large depths underwater, from 40 to 4000m deep, where their varying potential energy will make possible the storage or restitution of the excess or lack of produced energy, respectively.
